The national information management system (NIMS) for open employment services for people with disabilities commenced in January 1995.

The NIMS collection was funded by the Department of Family and Community Services. The system was managed under a tripartite process involving the Department of Family and Community Services, the AIHW (data manager) and an independent industry representative (industry development manager).
