38 years, time for something different!

Tomorrow, after 38 years working in the public sector, I will leave the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare and the Australian Public Service.
I have been extremely fortunate to have had many interesting roles and challenges across numerous different Departments and Agencies. I have learnt that you need to be willing to take a chance and you need to value people. So, a special call out, and thank you, to the many people I have worked with over the years.
Throughout my career I have learnt so much, primarily through all those that I have worked with. As those that know me realise I have a particular interest in how data, especially “people data”, can be used to help inform decision makers, service providers and communities. All with the aim of reducing disadvantage.
After a bit of time off I will be continuing this focus through a number of different roles.
My job at the AIHW for the last 5 years has to rank as one of the best roles that I have had. The staff of the Institute are fantastic and have supported me and educated me in the true potential of data. A special thank you to everyone there, it has been an absolute privilege to work with you!
Finally, to anyone with a role in building the evidence base through data and analytical work, be proud of what you do. Having a facts based debate on any issue is a key part of a well functioning democracy. Keep up the good work!
So, farewell, and thank you
