The BreastScreen Australia monitoring report 2004–2005 presents the latest national statistics in the monitoring of BreastScreen Australia, which aims to reduce illness and death resulting from breast cancer through organised screening to detect cases of unsuspected breast cancer in women, thus enabling early intervention.

In 2004–2005, just over 1.2 million aged 50–69 were screened by the BreastScreen Australia
In 2005, BreastScreen Australia detected 3,680 invasive breast cancers, of which 2,823 were in women aged 50–69 years
There were 4,515 interval cancers detected following a negative screening episode for women screened in 2001–2003
In 2005, there were 925 cases of DCIS detected in women participating in the BreastScreen Australia Program
