Australian studies examining muscle strengthening activities (MSA) focus on resistance and weight training. This Infocus report identified other activity types that may strengthen muscles, adapting the methodology used in UK health studies.
The report showed that:
- In 2017–18, around 4 in 10 Australian adults aged 18–64 did MSA on at least 2 days a week, as per Australia’s physical activity guidelines.
- Younger adults and men were generally more likely to meet the MSA guideline than older adults and women.
