Tobacco smoking

The following data visualisation shows tobacco smoking status by age group (per cent), 2001 to 2019, nationally and in each state and territory.

This figure shows that in 2019, 63% of Australians aged 14 and over never smoked, 23% were ex-smokers, 11.0% smoked daily, and 3.0% smoked occasionally. The proportion of Australians who smoke daily declined from 2016 (12.2%) to 2019 (11.0%).
