The health of people in Australia's prisons 2022

People may enter prison with existing health conditions, contract or be diagnosed with health conditions while in prison. The health conditions reported in this section include chronic conditions and communicable diseases. 

People in the prison system are some of the most vulnerable in our society, and often experience risk factors for chronic conditions and communicable diseases to a higher degree than people in the general population (AIHW 2019).
